Preventative health care helps your pet lead an active, healthy life. Your pet may not be able to tell you when they feel unwell or a problem is developing, so regular checks are vital.
A preventative health care program starts when you acquire your pet and is maintained throughout their life. Many problems can be avoided through regular health checks and early treatment, including:
Vaccinations - vital in puppies, kittens and young cats and dogs.
Socialisation - (puppies) during the critical 6 to 14 week socialisation period.
Nutrition - a premium dry food is generally recommended. Some medical conditions require a “prescription diet” and some benefit from wet (tinned or pouched) food.
Dental Care – via dry food, appropriate chewing dental exercise and timely dental prophylaxis.
Regular Worming and Flea prevention - tailored to your pet’s needs.
Microchipping - a form of permanent identification for your pet, and the most useful aid to reunite you with your pet should he/she go missing.
Neutering (spay and castration) - usually advised at 6 months of age. Neutering can help prevent some behavioural problems and life-threatening reproductive diseases, including cancer.
Annual Health Checks - until 8-10 years of age, after which a Senior Health Care Program can start.
Senior HealthExaminations - including early screening for various old-age related diseases. Recommended at least every 6 months for pets older than 8-10 years of age.
Pet Health Insurance – can help pay treatment costs for unexpected injury and illness.
