Microchipping

It is traumatic to have your pet go missing. Every year, more than 6,000 pets are reported lost. No matter how responsible an owner you are, there is a risk of your pet accidentally straying, or even worse, being stolen. Collars and tags are an ideal first line of identity, but can easily be lost.

Microchipping is a quick and simple injection that places a tiny microchip under the skin in the scruff of the neck. The microchip cannot be lost and lasts for the lifetime of your pet; remaining a permanent form of identification.

If your dog or cat should get lost, and is subsequently found, this unique microchip number can be retrieved by a simple portable scanner held by veterinary surgeons, local authorities and all charity, welfare and animal organisations, who can use this number to link to your personal details stored on the national database (Petlog). This database is accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This system ensures that you and your missing pet can be reunited in the shortest time possible.

Additionally, taking your pet abroad on the Pet Travel Scheme requires you to have your pet microchipped.

For peace of mind, ask your vet about microchipping.
